I am not what you would call a health nut, but I have always been interested in healthy living.  I played a lot of sports growing up and ate pretty healthy.  In the last few years I started to focus my diet on reducing added sugar and focusing on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.  I also started working out pretty hard at the gym.  I hired a personal trainer, took classes, and worked out on my own before the sun rose.

I loved the endorphin high, but after a few months, I was getting this nagging feeling of boredom.  I wasn’t feeling fantastic, which I attributed to school and a lot of stress.  I had read and heard about paleo/primal diets on various websites before and have a friend who has been doing paleo for a few years now.  I never had much interest, but this time around, I really took the time to read some of those websites.

What I read really piqued my curiosity and the health benefits are really what I’m going for. I won’t mind if I lose a few pounds either.

I started eating a Paleo/Primal diet in June 2011.  Along with the diet, I’m hoping to get on a better sleep schedule and create a calm lifestyle.

As of now, this is a big self-experiment.  There are still a lot of adjustments to be made and things to figure out.  I decided to keep this blog to keep track of what I eat and what changes I am making.

  1. My husband and I have switched our diets to something similar to the paleo diet (at least, I think so. I haven’t actually studied the paleo diet). We are focusing on vegetables, meats, raw dairy, and reducing our grain intake, and also looking into fermented foods. We don’t consume any sugar anymore, and I make our own bread from sourdough. My husband has been motivated to do this type of diet because of dental issues. We bought the book Cure Tooth Decay which has proven to be very interesting. My husband seems to be doing a lot better. I personally do sooo much better on this type of diet. I’ve been doing a lot of research on grains, and the work of Dr. Weston A. Price.

    • Hi Gracie,

I’m so glad to hear that you and your husband are doing better eating the way you do. That’s great! Paleo ends up being defined by what works for each person. I personally don’t eat any processed foods, sugar, or grains. I do eat some dairy (strictly speaking paleo also involves cutting out dairy, but aside from milk, dairy doesn’t bother me) mostly yogurt and cheese. I definitely enjoy the way that I eat and the changes that I have made in my life as a result.

I’m so happy to hear that making dietary changes have helped you and your husband! I’m interested in reading that book you mentioned, so I’ll be adding that to my reading list.

Thank you for coming by and sharing!
